CTG achieves breakthrough in artificial breeding of endangered fish Rhinogobio ventralis

Date: 2025-06-30

New progress has been made in the artificial breeding of Rhinogobio ventralis, a rare and endangered fish species under national second-class protection in China.

Researchers at CTG's National Engineering Research Center of Eco-Environment in the Yangtze River Economic Belt have recently bred over 10,000 second-generation fry, marking a key step toward population recovery of this native species.

Since 2009, the research team at the center has been working to overcome technical challenges in artificial propagation.

So far, the center has released more than 430,000 first-generation bred fish into the wild, establishing the largest artificial population of its species in China.

Moving forward, CTG will continue advancing breeding technologies to support the conservation of rare and endangered aquatic species in the Yangtze River.
