Xiluodu Hydropower Station is the world’s fourth-largest hydropower plant, acting as one of the primary power sources transmitting electricity from western China to the eastern regions. In addition to its primary function of power generation, the station also offers significant additional benefits, including silt retention, flood control, and improved downstream navigation.
It comprises 18 units of 770 MW turbine generators, resulting in a total installed capacity of 13.86 GW. Xiluodu Hydropower Station generates an annual average of 57.12 TWh of power. The first batch of generating units was commissioned in July 2013, and the last unit was connected to the grid for power generation on June 30, 2014. In September 2016, Xiluodu Hydropower Station won the FIDIC Outstanding Project of the Year.
