The Wudongde Hydropower Station, located on the lower sections of the Jinsha River, is the world’s seventh-largest hydropower station. It serves as a significant electricity provider to eastern China and stands as a key project for the large-scale development of China’s western region. 

It is a crucial element of the national effort to restructure China’s energy mix through energy conservation and emissions reduction. It drives economic development in western China and fosters social and economic progress.

In addition to its primary role in power generation, it also offers benefits such as flood control, improved navigation conditions, and the promotion of local economic and social development.

The Wudongde Hydropower Station is equipped with 12 generators, each with a generating capacity of 850MW. This results in a total installed capacity of 10.2GW and an estimated annual output of 38.91TWh.
