Located 360m down to the dam, the auxiliary weir of the Baihetan Dam is a concrete gravity dam. Together with the plunge pool, it constitutes the flood discharge and energy dissipation facility of the dam, which can withstand a discharge flow of up to 30,000 m3 per second with a maximum flood discharge power of 60,000 MW.
The elevation of the auxiliary weir is 608m with a maximum dam height of 67m, maximum width of 67m at the foundation, and a length of 173m at the crest. The project consists of 9 dam sections with a total concrete pouring volume of 280,000 m3. The whole dam is cast with low-heat cement concrete.
