Date: 2019-07-29
China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) kicked off a six-day summer camp for children from poverty-stricken regions on July 22, at the location of the Three Gorges Project in Yichang, Hubei Province. A total of 319 primary and secondary school students from nine areas that receive poverty-alleviation support from CTG participated in the “Yichang Hydropower Summer Camp”, the second camp CTG organized in the Three Gorges Dam area since last year.
Under the theme of “Meeting together at the Three Gorges Project and Building Dreams”, children participating in the summer camp got the chance to take a close look at the Three Gorges Project, visit the Three Gorges Powerhouse and Three Gorges Shiplift. Participants also got exposure to knowledge regarding the science of hydropower and held a variety of cultural performances.
Children who participated in the program experienced many “firsts” along the way, such as taking the train or plane for the first time, taking the ship for the first time, eating the buffet meal for the first time, and standing in front of the Three Gorges Dam for the first time. They were very excited about the experience.
There are also exchanges between children of different nationalities, which has helped them gain confidence while enhancing friendship.
CTG has always put education high on its poverty alleviation agenda and has so far dedicated more than RMB250 million ($36.3 million) to the cause, effectively advancing the development of education in poverty-stricken areas and enhancing their self-development momentum.
