Impoundment of Three Gorges Reservoir in final rush to hit 175m water level target

The water level of the Three Gorges Reservoir reached 165.05m on October 7, leaving only 10m away from the 175m target of the reservoir’s experimental impoundment operation in 2019.
Launched on September 10, the 175m experimental impoundment operation started from a water of 146.73m with a total water storage of 21.29 billion cubic meters to be impounded.
As of 2pm on October 7, the water level of the reservoir increased by 18.32m and the accumulative impoundment capacity reached 12.05billion cubic meters, leaving 9.24 billion m3 of water storage to be filled.
This year marks the 12th year of the 175m experimental impoundment operation at the Three Gorges Reservoir. China Yangtze Power Cascade Operation Center, taking advantage of the joint operations of cascade reservoirs, ensured the completion of the Three Gorges Reservoir’s annual impoundment mission by further optimizing the impoundment operation under the premise of securing flood control safety and reservoir bank stability.
