Over 57,000 Fish Fingerlings Released into the Jinsha River at Wudongde Power Plant

Date: 2018-02-13

On December 15, volunteers gathered at the fish proliferation and releasing sta-tion at river bank near Baihetan and Wudongde Power Plant to release rare fish into the Jinsha River. This initiative  aims to protect fish species and aquatic biodiversity. The fish fingerlings released back to the river included 35,100 schizothorax prenanti, over 19,000 percocypris pingi, over 3,000 leptobotia elongata and over 100 onychostoma simus. This is the third fish releasing initiative at this station following those in 2015 and 2016, when 67,000 fish fingerlings were released.

Schizothorax prenanti is a nutritious fish species living in the Min River and the Dadu River. Overfishing and damage of ecosystem in the 1990s caused injuries and death of a large number of schizothorax prenanti, and eventually disappear in many ar-eas.
