Four power units at CTG Brazil resume operations

Date: 2019-06-18

Four power generator units at the Jupiá and Ilha Solteira dams in Brazil managed by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) commenced commercial operation on May 31 after two units of Jupia hydropower station finished technical modernization.

The last two units are among four units of the first batch undergoing such upgrade. The Jupiá and Ilha Solteira hydropower stations are the backbone power stations for the grid of the economically developed regions in southeastern Brazil.

Consisting of 34 units with a total installed capacity of 4.995 million kw, the long-term safe and stable operation of the two power stations is critical to the power market in Brazil. CTG Brazil was granted a 30-year concession for the operation of the two power stations in November 2015.

The successful connection of the four units to the grid has laid a sound technical and management foundation for follow-up technical improvement endeavors at CTG Brazil, gaining a valuable experience for CTG in terms of managing technical modernization projects overseas.

The modernization project enables the power generation units at the Jupiá and Ilha Solteira dams to continue performing in high efficiency after running for over 40 years, helping consolidating CTG’s brand image as a world-leading clean energy company in Brazil's power industry.
