Three Gorges Dam sees record number of tourists

Three Gorges Dam scenic area has received over three million tourists by November 10, already surpassing the total of 2.91 million tourist visits recorded in 2018.

Tourist visits have hit a historical high, up 9.94% (an increase of 272 thousand) from the 2.74 million a year ago. The strongest growth was recorded in the number of tourists visiting via the land route during May, June and July, posting an average growth of 83.2% from a year earlier.

Since the dam was opened to Chinese tourists free of charge on September 25, 2014, it has received over 2 million tourists annually for five consecutive years.

Tourist visits continue to exhibit strong growth, supported by initiatives that make the visit a more seamless and pleasant experience. For example, the security check required upon entry to the dam was upgraded on April 23 to enable facial recognition for smart ID verification.
