ICOLD president Michael Rogers visits Three Gorges Project

A delegation led by Michael Rogers, President of International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD), visited Three Gorges Project on November 17.

ICOLD, the top global academic organization in dam engineering, is currently comprised of 101 national committees, more than 15,000 individual members and 27 underlying technical committees, two of which, namely, Integrated Operation of Hydropower Stations and Reservoirs and Resettlement Due to Reservoirs, are under the leadership of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG). ICOLD is now an important exchange platform for global hydraulic and hydropower industry.

The technical committees are an integral part of ICOLD and the CTG-led sub-committees have achieved great research fruits over the years and made a great contribution to ICOLD, said Rogers.

Rogers, who made a positive comment on the safety of Three Gorges Project to defuse the deformation rumors in July, reaffirmed his view of the security of the dam during the visit. He said he is also impressed by the smooth operation and excellent management of the Three Gorges Power Plant, heaping praise on the remarkable comprehensive benefits in flood prevention, power generation, shipping and water resources the project delivers.
