Three Gorges Reservoir conducts emergency replenishment operations
Date: 2019-12-30

China Yangtze Power (CYPC), a listed arm of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), recently launched emergency replenishment operations at the Three Gorges-Gezhouba cascade reservoirs to increase discharge flows as lower rainfalls and inflows to the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River caused the water levels in the Jingjiang section to fall.
During the emergency operations, CYPC gradually increased the discharge from the Three Gorges Reservoir to 7,000m3 per second, with a maximum outflow of 9,480m3 per second, which was 3,000 m3 per second higher than the inflow.
The operations saw the gradual rise of water level at the Shashi Station in the lower reach to 30.93m, an increase of nearly 0.91m. As of December 19, the Three Gorges Reservoir has replenished a total of 23.25 billion m3 water to the downstream this year, guaranteeing stable water supply for industrial and domestic use in regions along the Yangtze River.
As the Three Gorges Reservoir is currently in the seasonal drawdown period, CYPC will continue its replenishment operations to ensure the navigation safety in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and well manage the operations of the cascade hydropower stations, so as to fully unleash its benefits.
