Baihetan Dam starts equipment installation for world's first million-kilowatt unit

Baihetan Hydropower Station, owned and operated by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), started electromechanical installation for the #1 power unit on the its left bank on November 29, following a five-and-a-half-year process of excavation, reinforcement and concrete pouring for the underground powerhouse.
The underground powerhouse cave on the left and right banks of the Baihetan Hydropower Station are 438m long and 88.7m high, and the width of the cave below/above the ledge beam is 31m and 34m respectively, making it the longest suspension corridor-like underground cave.
The underground powerhouse on the left bank started the excavation and reinforcement work on June 1, 2014 and entered the concrete pouring and construction of embedded parts processes on May 31, 2018. The #1 power unit on the left bank will be among the first generation units to be operational in July 2021.
