First turbine runner for CTG-built Karot Dam passes ex-factory acceptance
Date: 2019-12-30
The first turbine runner for the Karot Dam in Pakistan built by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) passed the ex-factory acceptance conducted during December 17 to 18.
During the two-day acceptance process, experts of the acceptance team performed appearance inspection, static balance testing, machining dimension inspection and non-destructive testing of welds for the runner, a core component of the hydro-turbine system, and all technical indicators turned out to be above the requirements specified in the contract.
The turbine runner weights 125.5 tons with a maximum diameter of 6.3m and a height of 3.3m. As the “heart” of the hydro-turbine, the runner is the core component that is vital to the efficiency, safety and stability of the system.
The acceptance of the first runner paves the way for manufacturing subsequent units of the Karot Dam, laying a solid foundation for the mechanical and electrical installation as well as commissioning of the project.
