Hubei Energy Donghu Gas Turbine Thermal Power, an affiliate of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), completed the laying of a 237-meter heating pipe network in 42 hours on February 28, delivering an engineering feat that was more than 12 hours ahead of the schedule.

Donghu Gas Turbine Thermal Power is the only provider for centralized heating in Donghu New Technology Development Zone in Wuhan of Hubei province. The company received an order on February 14 to help lay a heating pipeline in the newly built Optics Valley campus of Hubei Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital, which was enlisted by the government as a designated hospital to treat COVID-19 patients and therefore the new campus needs to be put into operation ahead of schedule.

However, about 200-meter boiler heat pipelines were not installed in the hospital when it was enlisted, making it imperative to lay these pipelines immediately to ensure the hospital can run on time.

The project was officially started at 8 am on February 16. The stormy rain at the first night caused a wall collapse incident in the hospital. Understaffed and in shortage of equipment, the collapsed wall could not be cleaned, hampering the installation of a 15-meter pipelines underneath.

CTG staff working at the site took immediate decision to re-optimize the pipeline route scheme for the affected area and prefabricated the pipe materials simultaneously, saving time for the project. After relentless efforts by 31 staff working around the clock, the construction team completed the laying work at 10 am on February 18.
