CTG-built Baihetan dam receives turbine runner at powerhouse

Date: 2020-03-02

The Baihetan Hydropower Station, owned and built by China Gorges Corporation (CTG), received GW-turbine runner for assembly at the powerhouse on its left bank in late February, marking a good start for assembly of power units located on the left bank.

The Baihetan Hydropower Station, the world’s second-largest hydropower project, will house a total of 16 GW-turbine power units on its left and right banks, with eight at each side.

Due to road transportation restrictions, the core component turbine runners were welded, processed and assembled at the dedicated processing plant located in the construction area. This is the third turbine runner it has received for powerhouse on the left bank. It has 8.65m in diameter, 3.92m in height, and weighs 359 tons.

The dedicated processing plant will deliver another three turbine runners and four bottom brackets for the power units located on the left bank this year. With allstaff returning to work, roduction tasks at the plant have not been hampered due to the impact of the epidemic.
