CTG-owned Changlongshan completes hydrostatic test for volute at #2 Unit
Date: 2019-12-16

Changlongshan Pumped Storage Power Station, owned by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), successfully completed the hydrostatic test for volute at #2 Unit on December 5, paving the way for concrete pouring.
The test, which lasted 13 hours and underwent multiple procedures including step-pressure test, pressurizing and pressure reduction, is aimed to thoroughly examine the design, manufacture and installation of the volute as well as relieve welding residual stresses.
The volute for each unit must pass such test before the concrete pouring work start so that the volute can live up to the requirements of long-term safe and stable operation of the power unit.
After the completion of the hydrostatic test, #2 Unit will enter into the continuous concrete pouring phase until the first quarter of next year when the concrete is expected to reach the generator layer.
Installation of the power generation equipment is also scheduled to start then, and power generation will begin in the second half of 2021 after the installation and commissioning work completes.
