CTG-built Nam Kong 1 dam in Laos completes installation of key equipment
Date: January 22, 2020
China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE), an affiliate of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), successfully completed putting a key equipment at Nam Kong 1 Hydropower Station in Laos on December 30, laying a solid foundation for subsequent installation of other electromechanical equipment.
CWE installed the stay ring and volute for dam’s first generation unit, marking another milestone for the project’s electromechanical installation.
Located in the lower reaches of the Nam Kong in southern Laos, Nam Kong 1 Hydropower Station is a hydropower complex built for electricity generation, flood control, and irrigation with a dam height of 90m and an installed capacity of 160MW.
Co-developed by CWE and Électricité du Laos (EDL), the project is expected to start operation in 2021. Laos is looking to sell 100,000kW electricity to Singapore through the power grids in Thailand and Malaysia and export 200,000kW power to Myanmar by 2020.
