CTG-owned Baihetan dam transfers converters on the left bank
Date: 2020-04-13
The world’s largest capacity underground 550 KV converter was delivered to Baihetan hydropower station in April, where it was then transferred to the main transformer chamber the same day.
The converter of the Baihetan dam, the world’s largest hydropower project, weighed approximately 178 tons, equivalent to 89 sedans. It will serve the no.1 power unit installed underground on the left bank, which will be the first to go into operation. It is the first batch of key electrical equipment delivered at Baihetan during the COVID-19 epidemic.
Baihetan hydropower station, the second largest hydropower station in China after Three Gorges dam, is scheduled to begin impoundment in May 2021 with the first batch of power units to be put into operation in July 2021.
