China Three Gorges Renewables (Group) Co., the new energy arm of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), announced that it has installed China’s first large-diameter steel pile on June 23, marking a significant milestone at its Yangjiang Shapa offshore wind farm.

During phase two of a five-phase construction plan, CTG Renewables installed a steel pile for a four-pile jacket foundation that spans four meters in diameter and 40 meters in length with a gross weight of 190 tons. The installation represents a new technical breakthrough in the construction of large diameter pile jackets on Chinese offshore wind farms.

Located in Yangjiang, Guangdong province, the offshore wind farm has a total installed capacity of 1.7 million kW. It will install 62 wind turbines during the second phase, each with a capacity of 6.45 MW, amounting to 400 MW in total.

The large diameter four-pile jacket accounts for over 50 percent of the total capacity. Its installation marked a crucial step in connecting the phase two to the grid.
