China International Water & Electric Corp. (CWE), a subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), received the final inspection and acceptance certificate for enlargement and renovation of its Mengkuang Dam on July 24, marking that the final handover of the project has been completed.
The Mengkuang Dam is a vital part of the region’s water supply plan, and following its upgrades, it will greatly ease the shortage of water supply in the state during the dry season.
Located in the Penang, a state in northwest Malaysia, the project commenced on August 1, 2011, with a contract duration of five years and a value of approximately 200 million dollars.
The project, which was commissioned by the dam’s owner, Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), mainly comprised of elevating an existing 1km-long dam and constructing a new dam that is two kilometers long and 45 meters high.
