China International Water & Electric Corp. (CWE), a subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), signed an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract with Madagascar’s Ministry of Water, Energy and Hydrocarbons (MEH) for the African island nation’s Ambodiroka hydropower plant on July 29.
The Ambodiroka hydropower plant is a clean energy project in Madagascar comprised of a hydropower station as well as power transmission and transformation lines and some electricity projects in rural areas along the transmission lines. With a total installed capacity of 56MW, the hydropower station is expected to generate 320 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
The Ambodiroka hydropower plant is one of the priority projects in Madagascar's 2019-2023 five-year plan. Upon completion, the major civil project will alleviate power shortages in the country and contribute to the 220kV national grid.
