The tourist area of the Three Gorges Dam, owned and built by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), welcomed a total of 12,600 tourists on August 22, the highest single-day number this year, overtaking the number of tourists recorded during the same period last year for the first time in 2020.

Flood discharge and the safeguarding the Yangtze River have become hot topics this summer due to this year’s brutal monsoon season that saw several rounds of major floods in China’s biggest river, increasing the attractiveness of the Three Gorges Dam among the public.

As of 11 a.m. on August 22, the number of tourists pre-registered to visit the dam had exceeded 10,000 for the first time this year, as visitors from all corners of the country thronged the dam area.

Ahead of the back-to-school season, the boom is expected to last until the end of August. The tourist area has already booked a large group reservation from outside the Hubei province that will bring in up to 3,000 visitors within this week.
