China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) released a batch of rare fish into the Jinsha River on September 22, stepping up its conservation efforts as part of its Yangtze River protection initiative.

CTG’s Wudongde Engineering and Construction Department released 150,000 schizothoraxprenati, percocyprispingi and onychostomasimum into the Jinsha River at its Wudongde reservoir construction section, marking the seventh release by the department since 2015 and its second release this year.

To date, more than 780,000 rare fish fry have been released including species such as schizothoraxprenati, onychostomasimum, leptobotiaelongata and percocyprispingi.

CTG’s Wudongde Engineering and Construction Department has partnered with Chinese Sturgeon Research Institute (CSRI) in recent years in joint research on artificial breading of the rare fish and has succeeded in artificial breading of schizothoraxprenati and percocyprispingi, as well as making remarkable progress on artificial breading of Coreius guichenoti and Rhinogobio ventralis, overcoming the challenges such as the dry heat and high temperature in the river valley.
