Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni paid a visit to the construction site of the downstream traffic bridge for Isimba hydropower plant, a project being built by China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE), a subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), on January 7, inspecting the project where he was debriefed about the work progress.

President Yoweri described the project as an exemplar of the China-Uganda cooperation as he cut the ribbon to celebrate the completion of the traffic bridge project.

Commenced in August 2019, the 17-month project underwent the double trial of the Covid-19 pandemic and the worst flood of White Nile in the last six decades.

The 5.6-km Isimba traffic bridge is the second longest one in the country. It is a key route that connects the Kayunga and Kamuli districts across the While Nile and plays a crucial role in improving the road transportation and driving the economic development on both sides of the river.
