Souapiti Hydropower Complex in Guinea, constructed by China International Water & Electric Corp. (CWE), a subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), successfully hoisted the rotor into the pit of the 4th power unit on January 11.

Dubbed "the Three Gorges Project in West Africa", the Souapiti hydropower complex is the second cascade hydropower plant in Guinea's Konkoure River hydropower project. The project adopts engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) model and CWE, also one of its investors, is the contractor. The dam connected its first power unit to the grid on November 8, 2020 local time.

The Suapiti hydropower plant has a total installed capacity of 450 MW with an annual average output of 1.899 billion kWh. Connected with the substation of Kaleta hydropower station, it transmitted power through a 8.7 km double-circuit 225 kV line on the same tower. Upon completion, the hydropower plant will not only ensure electricity supply in Guinea, but also play a role in storing and replenishing water in different seasons, regulating the natural runoff of the Konkoure River, and significantly enhancing the operation efficiency of the Kaleta hydropower plant downstream.
