Three Gorges Dam says tourism recovers to pre-pandemic level during May Day holiday

The tourist area of the Three Gorges Dam received 123,800 visitors during the May Day holiday this year, an increase of 460 people compared to the same period in 2019, indicating that the tourism in the site has bounced back to pre-pandemic level, according to the figures provide by the managing authority.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs promoted Hubei, where the Three Gorges is located, to the world in an event on April 12, showing the latest developments in the province. Hubei continues to be a popular destination for tourists from all over the country during the May Day holiday, and the number of visitors to the tourist area of the Three Gorges Dam continues to climb.

Statistics show that the tourist area of the Three Gorges Dam saw 86,000 visitors from outside the province during the May Day holiday, accounting for 69.4% of the total number of visitors. All of the 49 cruise ships operating in the Three Gorges area were put into operation, and the tickets for the trip from Fengjie County or Wanzhou District of Chongqing to Yichang, Hubei Province were quickly sold out.

As a way to show the gratitude for the support Hubei province received from medical workers and Fujian province in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, the tourist area of the Three Gorges Dam offered free tickets for visitors from these two groups and it said it received 921 such visitors during the May Day holiday. It set up a special security check channel for those visitors.
