Zhuanghe III offshore wind farm, located in the highest-latitude and coldest area in China among its peers, has been delivering tremendous ecological benefits since its inception, according to its owner and operator China Three Gorges Renewables (CTG Renewables), the alternative energy arm of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG).

Compared with a fossil fuel power station of the same capacity, the wind farm can save 230,000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 637,000 tons every year, as well as saving 208,400 tons of water every year, CTG Renewables said.

The offshore wind farm, located in Zhuanghe, Dalian City, Liaoning Province, is the first offshore wind power project in the northeast region of China, and the largest existing offshore wind power project in the northern region of the country.

With 72 units of 3 MW, 3.3 MW and 6.45 MW wind turbines, the project boasts a total installed capacity of 300 MW and is expected to generate about 776 million kilowatt-hours a year. It also comes with a 220kV offshore booster station and a 220kV onshore centralized control center.

Zhuanghe III offshore wind farm is expected to help transform and upgrade the energy structure in Liaoning, which is still dominated by coal-fired power, boosting the share of clean energy in the local energy mix.
