China's first floating wind foundation platform shipped out from its yard in Zhoushan
Date: 2021-06-15

China's first floating wind foundation platform has completed the construction and was shipped out from its yard in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province on June 8, ushering in a new stage of China's first prototype floating wind turbine project and laying a ground for the development of far and deep offshore wind farms.
This is China's first application of the floating wind foundation platform, which measures 91m in width and 32m in depth with a design draught of 13.5m that is able to withstand the extremely complicated and adverse conditions in South China Sea.
China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) and a Chinese wind turbine manufacturer developed and manufactured the wind turbine mounted on the platform. It is the world's first typhoon-proof offshore floating wind turbine with a resistance of up to level-17 typhoons.
The turbine was assembled, tested and rolled off line at Yangjiang Offshore Wind Power Industrial Base in Guangdong in May. With a capacity of 5.5 MW for a single unit and a rotor diameter of 158m, the prototype floating wind turbine can generate up to 5,500 kWh electricity per hour, which is able to supply clean power for 30,000 households every year.
