Runners at Baihetan hydropower station pass acceptance tests
Date: 2021-07-26

Baihetan hydropower station, owned by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), announced that runners of its eight generators on the right bank have all passed acceptance tests on July 24.
The eight runners, co-designed and manufactured by Harbin Electric and CTG, all reached the standard of excellence. The acceptance wrapped up the runner production workload for the right bank, laying the groundwork for their subsequent installation and commissioning.
The runner, a core component of the hydraulic generator, determines the energy conversion efficiency of the generator and is thus called the "heart" of the hydraulic generator.
The runner of Baihetan's power unit on the right bank weighs 338 tons, the largest long-and-short-blade mixed flow hydraulic runner ever manufactured in China. The manufacturing process began in April 2018.
Baihetan, which straddles the provinces of Yunnan and Sichuan, will have a total installed capacity of 16 million kilowatts, making it the world's largest hydropower project under construction.
The hydropower station will be equipped with 16 domestically designed hydro-generating units, each with a capacity of 1 million kilowatts, the largest single-unit capacity in the world. All units are scheduled to be operational in July 2022.
