CTG commissions the world's first typhoon-proof floating offshore wind turbine

Date: 2021-12-14

Yangjiang offshore wind farm, owned by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), commissioned the first domestic floating offshore wind power platform featuring the world's first typhoon-proof floating offshore wind turbine on December 7. This marks that China has become the first country with independent capabilities of developing, manufacturing, installing and operating large-capacity, typhoon-proof floating offshore wind turbines.

Floating offshore wind power technology, hailed as the key technology for future development of offshore wind power in deep and open sea, has been explored in many countries and regions. Unlike traditional wind turbines fixed on the offshore seabed, floating turbines can enable the deployment of wind turbines in deep and open sea. While harvesting stable and high-quality wind power resources in deep and open sea, they will not affect near-shore fishery and other related industrial activities.
