Date: 2021-12-24

Baihetan hydropower plant, owned by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), finished hoisting the runner for its No.9 hydraulic generator, its last power unit, on December 19. All runners of the 16-GW hydropower plant have now been hoisted.
Baihetan hydropower plant, the world"s largest hydropower project under construction and the world’s second-largest hydropower project after the Three Gorges Project, will house a total of 16 GW-turbine power units on its left and right banks, with eight at each side.
The runner is a core component of the hydraulic power unit, vital to the flow capacity, hydraulic efficiency, cavitation erosion performance and stability of the system. It is one of the most challenging components in the R&D process of the generator.
