CTG-built Baihetan dam completes rotors installation

Baihetan hydropower station, owned by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), announced that it has finished installation of the rotor for its No.9 generator on the right bank on the morning of January 18, the last rotor installed in the world"s second largest hydropower plant and marking that the station’s 16 units of 1-GW hydraulic generators have all the rotors installed.

The rotor, the rotating part of a hydraulic generator, is the heaviest core component of a generator. When the power unit is running, the rotor produces a rotating magnetic field by spinning, which then cuts across the stator windings, thereby generating induced electromotive force and electric energy.
