Date: 2022-06-02

Unit 5 of the Baihetan hydropower station in southwest China passed a 72-hour trial operation and started formal operation, which marks half of the 16 power-generation units in the mega project are now in operation.
Located on the Jinsha River, the upper section of the Yangtze River, the hydropower station transmits electricity from the resource-rich west to energy-hungry regions in east China, marking a significant step in the country's utilization of clean energy. Till now, it has produced over 26.9 billion kWh of electricity.
With a total installed capacity of 16 million kW, the project will generate an average of more than 62.4 billion kWh of electricity every year, sufficient for the annual electricity consumption of approximately 75 million people once fully operational.
