China's 1st gigawatt-scale offshore wind farm has generated over 2 billion kWh in 2022
Date: 2022-08-10

China's first gigawatt-scale offshore wind farm, the Yangjiang Shapa project, generated over 2 billion kWh of electricity on Aug. 3, 2022. The electricity generated by this project, located in the sea off the coast of south China's Guangdong Province, can replace around 600,000 tonnes of standard coal and reduce 1.6 million tonnes of CO2 emission.
Invested and constructed by CTG, the wind farm has a total installed capacity of 2 million kW and consists of 315 offshore wind turbines, four offshore booster stations, and almost 1,000 kilometers of submarine cables. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area can receive about 5.6 billion kWh of clean power generated by the wind farm each year, meeting the annual electricity consumption needs of around 2.4 million households.
