The Chinese Sturgeon Research Institute

Located next to the Three Gorges Dam, the Chinese Sturgeon Research Institute, affiliated with CTG, has been committed to research and protection efforts involving rare aquatic fishes in the Yangtze River Basin since its establishment in 1982.

The researchers of this institute have successfully domesticated more than 60 rare and endemic fish species in the Yangtze River, and mastered key artificial breeding techniques for more than 20 fish species, including Chinese sturgeon and Dabry's sturgeon. They adopted diversified protection measures for rare aquatic animals in the Yangtze River basin to maintain a stable ecosystem.

This institute has conducted more than 100 successive fish stocking activities since 1984 and released nearly 20 species and 10 million rare and endemic fish.
