The Ship Lift Project of Three Gorges Project--the winner of the 2019 FIDIC Merit Award--is the world’s largest ship lift designed to help small and medium-sized ships traverse the dam. The project can lift a 3000-tonne ship 113 meters vertically from the reservoir to the river below.

The project has shortened the ships’ passing time from 4 hours to about 40 minutes. Up to now, it has carried out more than 19,500 safe operations and transported about 19,700 ships, 536,900 passengers, and over 10 million tonnes of cargo.
