"To give students a bowl of water, a teacher must have a bucket of it. I wish them a broader vision and greater aspirations," said Bounkham Pameesay, aged 59, the longest-serving principal of Pak Ngua School in Laos.

With renovation projects and improved teaching facilities, Pak Ngua School is now a famous school in the surrounding villages. Over 500 students are studying in the school, up from some 200 in 2016. The changes couldn't have been made without the support from a Chinese enterprise, CTG, according to the principal.

This semester, the students were surprised to see a new library full of 2,000 brand-new books and stationery, bought and built by CTG.

In Laos, CTG has invested and built many hydropower projects, alleviating the power shortage problem , but also built roads and renovated schools for local communities in Laos, Pameesay said.
“After CTG built new roads, the villagers started crop production and poultry farming, as the roads enable them to sell their products in the county. Besides, their children can work at the hydropower station, which has significantly improved their livelihood. Over 70 percent of the students in the village have been admitted to universities,” he added.
