In the underground chambers on the left bank of the Baihetan Dam, there are three spillway tunnels hailed as engineering marvels and works of art. They are smooth, durable and anti-cracking. Being brushed against by water, they look just like a mirror.

Due to the high velocity and large volume of flood discharge, any roughness in the spillways could possibly lead to safety hazards. To avoid potential risks, CTGers fully concentrated on their work and strictly followed every technical process.

The three spillways will turn into “giant dragons” ejecting water once the gates are open, and work in cooperation with hydropower stations downstream for flood control.
