1,600,000,000,000 kWh of clean energy!
Date: 2023-07-11

The Three Gorges Hydropower Station, the world's largest hydropower project, has generated over 1.6 trillion kWh of electricity in the 20 years since its first generator unit began operating on July 10, 2003.
This amount of electricity is equivalent to the total direct-use electricity consumption by Chinese residents in 2022. It is also equivalent to saving over 480 million tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1.32 billion tonnes.
For the past 20 years, the Three Gorges Project has been showing its benefits in water resource utilization. The Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest hydropower project, has successfully contained the first large flood of this year with a record-high capacity of 70,000 cubic meters per second in 2020. The Three Gorges project has contained a total of 208.8 billion cubic meters of floods by the end of 2022 since the project was put into operation in 2003.
During the dry season every year, the Three Gorges Reservoir replenishes water for the downstream of the Yangtze River. By the end of 2022, a total water replenishment of more than 360 billion cubic meters has been replenished.
