CTG's 2 GW photovoltaic project in the Kubuqi Desert, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, has successfully been connected to the grid. The project not only turned the "sea of sand" into a "blue sea" of new energy but also benefited local communities by providing jobs and converted the local environment.
Presently the largest singular solar project in China for desert control, it is expected to generate 41,000 GWh of clean energy per year, saving 1.23 million tonnes of standard coal, and reducing carbon emissions by 3.19 million tonnes. The project also strives to restore and manage 16,473 acres of desert while reducing sand transport to the Yellow River by 2 million tonnes.
