World's largest clean energy corridor produces over 3.5 trillion kWh of power
Date: 2024-02-20
The world's largest clean energy corridor, comprised of 6 cascade hydropower stations along the Yangtze River, reached a significant milestone on February 16. It produced over 3.5 million GWh of power, which is equivalent to saving over 1 billion tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon emissions by over 2.8 billion tonnes.
Four of the hydropower stations — Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, and Xiangjiaba—are located on the Jinsha River, the upper section of the Yangtze River, while the other two— Three Gorges and Gezhouba—are on the middle section of the same river.
They form a 1,800-km-long clean energy corridor that plays a significant role in flood control, shipping, water resources utilization, and ecological security in the Yangtze River Basin.
