CTG's Three Gorges Damship lift transports over 1 million passengers

CTG's Three Gorges Dam ship lift has transported over one million passengers by February 2024, contributing significantly to the shipping industry and tourism on the Yangtze River.

Boasting the ability to lift vessels of up to 3,000 tonnes over a vertical distance of 113 meters from the reservoir to the river below, it has securely carried 25,800 ships and 15.49 million tonnes of cargo since its inauguration in 2016. This engineering marvel, the largest ship lift in the world, is currently one of the permanent navigation facilities at the Three Gorges Dam. Its main purpose is to provide a fast passage for passengers and cargo vessels, as well as special-purpose vessels, through the dam.

Designed for efficiency, the ship lift significantly reduces passage time to approximately 40 minutes, compared with the 150 minutes required for ship locks, enhancing both commercial and leisure travel along the Yangtze River.
