Shipping throughput via Three Gorges exceeds 30 mln in Q1

In the first quarter of 2024, the shipping throughput via the Three Gorges project facilitated shipping operations 3,374 times, allowing 9,299 vessels to navigate through, with a total cargo volume exceeding 31.61 million tonnes.

In particular, more than 30 million tonnes of cargo passed the five-tier ship lock, close to the total annual cargo volume in 2004 when the ship lock of the Three Gorges Dam was opened to navigation. Meanwhile, the ship lift served over 17,000 passengers in the same period, hitting a new high since its inauguration in 2016.

These two facilities allow ships to travel between different water levels, enabling continuous navigation along the waterway.
