Three Gorges Reservoir completes drawdown for flood season
Date: 2024-06-11
On June 6, the water level of the Three Gorges Reservoir fell to 145 meters, completing its drawdown arrangement for 2024. This marks the completion of the Three Gorges reservoir's pre-flood water storage regulation and the start of flood control operations in flood season.
The reservoir has a total capacity of 39.3 billion cubic meters, and a flood control capacity of 22.15 billion cubic meters. As a key part of the flood control system for the Yangtze River drainage basin, the reservoir's operation is vital for the flood prevention and control in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
The drawdown of the Three Gorges Reservoir began last November. During this period, the reservoir maintained an outflow of over 7,000 cubic meters per second, effectively ensuring the water supply for people along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
