CTG’s coordinated flood management ensures Yangtze River’s safety
Date: 2024-07-02
The Three Gorges reservoir encountered its first flood of this year, with a inflow exceeding 30,000 cubic meters per second, a result of relentless heavy rainfall.
To mitigate downstream flood control pressure, CTG implemented coordinated flood management across cascade reservoirs along the Yangtze River.
Starting June 27, the outflow from the Three Gorges reservoir was gradually reduced from 24,000 to 18,000 cubic meters per second, and further to 14,000 cubic meters per second on June 28.
This adjustment raised the reservoir's water level by about 2.9 meters over two days, capturing approximately 1.46 billion cubic meters of floodwater.
Meanwhile, coordinated flood control efforts were made along the Yangtze River. The Xiangjiaba hydropower station, located upstream of the Three Gorges Dam, reduced outflow from 6,300 to 5,500 cubic meters per second to lower the flood pressure.
Moving forward, CTG will strengthen the management of cascade reservoirs along the Yangtze River, maximizing their flood control capabilities to further ensure the safety and security of flood prevention efforts along the river.
