Three Gorges project facilitates navigation and transportation

The Three Gorges Project maintained busy yet orderly navigation in the first half of this year, facilitating the passage of over 20,600 vessels and the transportation of a total of 74 million tonnes of cargo.

The five-tier ship locks at the Three Gorges Project, a vital component of the Yangtze River's main navigation channel, have processed over 17,900 vessels that transported over 71 million tonnes of cargo, while the Three Gorges ship lift transported nearly 250,000 passengers and over 2,700 vessels.

Since its inauguration in 2003, the Three Gorges five-tier ship locks have handled nearly 2.1 billion tonnes of cargo, while the Three Gorges ship lift has transported over one million passengers since trial operations began in 2016.

To date, CTG has launched eight scheduled maintenance shutdowns for the ship lock and three for the ship lift, to enhance their operational safety and reliability.
