Date: September 3, 2024
On August 25, 2024, the ship lift at the Three Gorges Dam commenced its maintenance shutdown as scheduled, which marked the fourth maintenance period since the ship lift entered operation.
The 35-day maintenance includes 50 inspection tasks across 7 major categories, such as metal structure, hydraulics, electrical, hydrotechnical, and others. The Three Gorges ship lift has a total length of about 7,300 meters, and its chamber is 120 meters long and 18 meters wide. It can quickly lift vessels with a displacement of up to 3,000 tonnes over the dam.
Since its opening in 2016, the ship lift has safely completed over 42,500 operations (including more than 28,500 with loaded cargo), transporting 18.11 million tonnes of cargo and 1.39 million passengers.
