Three Gorges project reports sound operations in first three quarters of 2024

The Three Gorges Reservoir intercepted 12.68 billion cubic meters of floodwater when the Yangtze River experienced its "No. 1" and "No. 2" floods in July of this year, ensuring safety for the middle and lower reaches of the river.

The peak water level reached 166.55 meters.

In August, the water level of the reservoir was lowered to 152.15 meters to mitigate downstream water levels in preparation for future water storage.

On September 10, CTG officially began autumn impoundment, raising the water level from 154 meters to over 162 meters by the end of the month, with approximately 6 billion cubic meters stored.

By the end of September, the Three Gorges project had facilitated the passage of 115 million tonnes of cargo. The five-tier ship locks operated safely and efficiently, with over 7,300 lock operations, handling over 27,200 vessels carrying more than 110 million tonnes of cargo and 16,900 passengers, maintaining a 100-percent equipment integrity rate. The Three Gorges Ship Lift completed around 3,500 safe operations, elevating more than 3,500 vessels carrying over 39,000 passengers.

As of the end of September, the Three Gorges Power Plant had generated over 10 billion kWh more power than a year ago.
