Ship lift of Xiangjiaba hydropower station on Jinsha River achieves safe passage of 20,000 vessels

Date: 2024-11-18

The ship lift of the Xiangjiaba hydropower station on the Jinsha River in southwest China has facilitated the safe passage of over 20,000 vessels, with a cumulative cargo volume exceeding 8.63 million tonnes. This achievement marks a new milestone in the ship lift's operational history.

As China’s second gear and rack climbing balance-weight vertical ship lift, the Xiangjiaba Ship Lift boasts a maximum lift height of 114.2 meters. Its large-scale, complex structure and demanding installation and operation processes highlight its engineering sophistication.

Since the start of its trial operation, CTG has conducted real-vessel trials. It now takes only 32 minutes for a ship to pass through the ship lift, and the lift's maximum daily throughput has exceeded 11,700 tonnes, thereby improving navigation efficiency and lift capacity.

To date, the Xiangjiaba Ship Lift has met its design targets ahead of schedule.
