Ship lift at Three Gorges Dam achieves record-breaking throughput of 500,000 passengers in 2024

As of November 5, 2024, the ship lift at the Three Gorges Dam has transported over 500,000 passengers this year—marking the first time in its history to surpass this milestone.

This achievement represents a 25.68-percent year-on-year increase and a 10.67-percent rise compared to the total passenger volume in 2023.

In the same period, the ship lift has completed 5,649 operations (including 4,073 loaded operations), facilitated the passage of 4,107 vessels, and handled about 3.46 million tonnes of cargo.

As China’s first gear and rack climbing balance-weight vertical ship lift, the ship lift at the Three Gorges Dam has entered trial operation in 2016.

Over the years, it has completed 41,220 operations (including 29,103 loaded operations), facilitated the passage of 29,400 vessels, served nearly 1.5 million passengers, and handled over 18 million tonnes of cargo.
